The AISD district has issued the 10 years plans to close nine schools. They didn’t mention any school name; however, they did say that they have submitted one middle school and eight elementary schools that will be enclosed. And also, Superintendent Meria Carstaphen recommends cutting more than 1,000 jobs. It will save district more than $53 million dollars for upcoming school year. There are a few districts that are likely to involve the possible closure like of Barton Hills, Zilker, Sanchez, Oak Springs, Ortega, Brooke, Pease and Joslin elementary schools, as well as Pearce Middle School.
Cutting 1,000 jobs is big number. Our country needs more decent teachers. But then, we have fired many of them in order to save district money for upcoming years. Is it ironic?
